Real America TV is Here. What is it? And Where Did it Come From?
The day after the 2012 elections was incredibly challenging for the staff of Grassfire Lab. While we never really expected to see Barack Obama defeated, we nonetheless held onto hope. However, Mitt Romney proved to offer very little contrast when it came to picking the best candidate to lead us out of dark political times. It was yet another “lesser of two evils” scenario We The People are becoming all too familiar with. We prayed that America would see the truth and vote accordingly, but we found that far too many in this great nation could be easily deceived.
I recall I didn’t even bother going to the office that day. I figured Steve Elliott, my direct superior and President of Grassfire Lab (And Grassfire.com), wouldn’t make it in either. But Steve went to work and set about authoring an amazingly brilliant letter that was, a few days later, read live by Glenn Beck on his national radio program. The letter became known as “Steve Elliott’s Letter to Exiles” and went viral a few days after Obama’s reelection.
Do yourself a favor and listen to/watch the full clip below. It will help provide valuable perspective as we describe what Real America TV is all about.
Steve went on to author Thriving in Exile and Thriving Through the Night, two extraordinary guides to remaining on a positive and productive path in very difficult times. Thriving Through the Night starts off with the following few paragraphs as part of the introduction.
“I’m writing you from a dark place. I’ve been here for quite a few weeks. In the scope of my life, it is a short amount of time. But right now, it feels like forever. And I can’t see my way out.
It really doesn’t matter how I got here. All that matters is that it’s dark. And the darkness is real. At times, this dark place has seemed almost physical – more concrete than other things I’ve known to be real my whole life.
Just recently, I began to realize it is no accident that this sense of personal darkness has descended on me shortly after I experienced a moment of personal and spiritual clarity. A moment in which I felt like I gained a clear understanding of my place in history… right now. And how during this season of exile, the challenge and the opportunity set before me was clear.
To build. And plant. And bless. And pray.”
Let me repost that last line with significant emphasis.
To build. And plant. And bless. And pray.
The Times We Live In & The Challenges We Face
Let there be no doubt, we’re living in some of the most challenging years in decades, possibly in generations. There are plenty of places to put blame. Unfortunately, in most of those places, we see a telltale finger pointing right back at ourselves.
You see, we have, as a society, allowed the entertainment and media giants to inject radical anti-American agendas into the culture stream of our nation. We’ve sat in front of our TVs being bombarded by a false image of reality concocted by special interests hell-bent on forcing society to accept deception as truth and evil as the norm. These same special interests pump hundreds of millions of dollars into the political system, and we allow ourselves to be convinced to vote based on the biggest yard sign, the flashiest TV ads and the grandest campaign promises.
All of this while being beaten down by brutal economic conditions and an overly regulated business environment. I certainly understand how one could begin to withdraw from the entire process. Unplug from it all, if you will. But underneath the heavy layers of discouragement, even depression, is that what America truly is? Is that who we are as a free people? (still somewhat free, anyway…)
Steve Elliott is President of a small company in comparison to big business in America, but the company employs quite a few full-time folks who have homes, families and lives that are built into the company and what it stands for. Steve’s proclamation that he will build, plant, bless and pray was a profound and energizing assertion that has stuck with me ever since those dark days in 2012.
The results of Steve’s leap of faith weren’t really revealed to us all until December of 2013. We weren’t really sure if there was much fight left in REAL AMERICA, you know… the vast majority of the people who still know right from wrong. Most of our Grassfire members and supporters are politically fatigued and becoming lackadaisical in their political activity. So where will the fight move? And will there be any fight at all?
As I said, the answer came in December of last year. About a week before Christmas, it was revealed that cable network A&E chose to side with GLAAD, a radical special interest group that openly discriminates against straight people, and suspend Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson. A&E’s arrogant discrimination against Phil Robertson, and the resulting firestorm, was astonishing to see unfold -millions of Americans took a stand in a way I’ve rarely witnessed in my 34 years on this planet.
Grassfire sprang into action and put up a petition at BackPhil.com. It quickly became the single largest petition supporting Phil Robertson and opposing A&E’s discrimination against him. In total, we delivered more than 400,000 petition signatures to A&E and played a significant role in their reversal of the suspension of the patriarch of TV’s Robertson family.
What we saw happen was amazing. We saw a spontaneous and exhilarating movement develop around the idea that a sincere man of faith should be able to share his beliefs without being attacked and discriminated against. And we saw a major exodus of viewers who now claim to no longer watch A&E-produced TV shows. Indeed, A&E’s Duck Dynasty is losing a significant number of viewers, and there are rumors the network may be looking to replace the show…knowing full well they’ve damaged their relationship with the core Duck Dynasty audience.
Grassfire Lab, the business “thought lab” behind the BackPhil campaign and Real America TV, has a motion media department. Norvell Rose, our Director of Motion Media, is an extraordinary mind with an extensive background in TV, video and film production. We had already been putting pieces together to possibly produce a TV show based on a wildly entertaining and accomplished group of individuals who run a world-class business in the hills of Arkansas, so the timing was divine.
Additionally, we have for a year now, been consistently producing a regularly published show for LibertyNews.com featuring Norvell’s analysis and commentary. We also produce many smaller news updates and video segments “with an attitude” that aren’t so politically charged, but play a role in the greater culture wars.
On New Year’s Day of 2014, Norvell and I got together in our Virginia offices (yes, on New Year’s Day) to discuss a vision to charge onto a different battlefield in the great culture war. We didn’t want to just be present near the skirmishes. We wanted to be prominent in the offensive. We wanted to be up front in the trenches.
Our vision developed quickly, providentially. After only a few days, Steve Elliott was on board; and a few days later the rest of our company executives were ready to back our vision and put this ambitious project into forward motion.
So here we are. We’re building, we’re planting, we’re blessing and we’re praying.
We’re not quite ready to release full details of what Real America TV will look like when it goes live on July 4th of 2014 – Independence from Hollywood Day – but in the days and weeks ahead we will be releasing pieces of information, news about shows/channels that will be available in the network, updates about how you can access the network, behind the scenes footage, special telephone townhall events, live meetups, contests and giveaways and much more. We hope you will become as emotionally invested in Real America TV as we are.
Starting in February you’ll begin seeing show pages go live, with details about the unique programs we’re developing, the cast members of the shows, the background, the release dates and more. Norvell Rose, our Executive Producer, will begin posting updates from our production department, and you’ll begin seeing our progress published to the main Real America TV website at RealAmericaTV.com.
In short we’re determined to prove that, with your help, we can now go around the “high and mighty” in Hollywood to create and publish engaging, entertaining, compelling, endearing and true stories, inspiring stories, of real Americans. No longer will we tolerate being force-fed an agenda that doesn’t fit with the fabric that built this great nation and still holds it together. Americans can be entertained and uplifted without walking away from the real America we all know and love.
There are epic success stories all around us – we hope to be one of them. American ingenuity, entrepreneurship, personal responsibility and well deserved prosperity are still very much alive. Our stories are about the people who are proving this to be true, and we’re going to tell the stories in a wildly entertaining, yet clean way, that we’re sure you’ll appreciate and applaud.
Welcome to Real America TV! Stick around… you’re going to love what’s coming!
